Who am I?
Hi! I'm an applied linguist working at the Universidad del Magdalena in Santa Marta, Colombia. I graduated from my PhD program at the University of New England in Australia in 2020, with my dissertation being centred on the perceived (mis)representation of Colombian costeño Spanish in popular telenovelas and the way the sociolinguistic imaginary in the country contributes to the construction of how the costeño purportedly speaks. Currently, I'm the Director of the Center for Plurilingualism, where I have the pleasure of leading the teaching and research on languages and linguistics at our institution.
My research interests are broad, ranging from the previously-mentioned ideology work on media representations of Colombian Spanish variation to language teaching and also revitalisation and maintenance work. I have been teaching English as an additional language in international contexts since 2010, and linguistics since 2017, predominantly to Spanish-speakers.
If you would like to get in touch with me, please feel free to do so!
